Every LASTOOLX tool starts with the same question: will this still be on your keys years from now? For tools that are carried every day, through rain, sweat, and pockets full of keys, the material matters as much as the design. That's why we build with GR5 titanium.
What is GR5 titanium?
GR5, also known as Ti-6Al-4V, is a titanium alloy made of roughly 90% titanium, 6% aluminum, and 4% vanadium. It's the most widely used titanium alloy in the world, trusted in aerospace components and medical implants, where strength, weight, and reliability all matter.
Why it's ideal for everyday carry
- Light. Titanium is roughly 40% lighter than steel. On a keychain, you notice the difference every day. A MatchGrip tweezer weighs just 1.7g.
- Strong. GR5 has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, so small tools can stay small without feeling flimsy.
- Corrosion-resistant. Titanium naturally forms a thin, protective oxide layer on its surface. It won't rust from rain, sweat, or humidity.
- Skin-friendly. Titanium is known for its biocompatibility, which is why it's widely used in medical applications.
- Non-magnetic. It won't interfere with other gear on your keys.
How our finishes are made
Titanium Origin
Stonewashed and sandblasted to show the natural color of GR5 titanium. It's the most understated finish, and small scuffs from daily carry blend right in.
Gradient
Created by heat anodizing. Instead of paint or coating, the color comes from a controlled oxide layer on the titanium surface itself. Because it's done by hand, every Gradient piece is one of a kind.
PVD Black
A durable PVD (physical vapor deposition) treatment for a deep, stealthy black.
Built to last, not to replace
We'd rather make one tool you keep for years than something you replace every season. Every LASTOOLX product is backed by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects.
